Rosa BONHEUR (1825-1899) Sheep and ram in a sheepfold Watercolour and gouache on paper signed lower right, dated 1889, dedicated "To my friend Madame Fould 24 x 33,5 cm (on view) Framed under glass Expert : Expertises Tellier, Paris / Marc-Henri TELLIER, member of the CEFA Our drawing is dedicated to Mrs Georges Achille-Fould (1865-1951), painter, belonging to the Fould family with whom Rosa Bonheur had a long friendship. A portrait of her was painted by Mrs. Achille-Fould in 1893. It is kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. The year 1889 was an important one in Rosa Bonheur's life in many ways. During the Paris World Fair, she met Buffalo Bill and invited him to her castle in By, near Fontainebleau, where she painted his portrait. Her companion and painter Nathalie Micas also died there.
