After Juste-Aurèle MEISSONNIER. Pair of candlesticks and their candlestick holders in chiseled and silver-plated bronze in the Rocaille style, featuring a motif of volutes and clasps. H: 24 cm.
Characteristic of the Rocaille style, which borders on Rococo, these candlesticks are inspired by the designs of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695–1750), a draftsman, French goldsmith and ornamental artist, considered by his contemporaries to be one of the leading figures of the Rocaille style.
He succeeded Jean II Bérain as architect-designer to the King’s Chamber and Cabinet.
