Hans-Christian KOEFOED (1849-1921). Meeting in the forest, c - Lot 97
Hans-Christian KOEFOED (1849-1921). Meeting in the forest, circa 1900. Oil on canvas signed lower right. 72 x 90 cm. Biography: Hans-Christian KOEFOED (1849-1921), a Danish national, studied painting first in Copenhagen from 1869, then in Paris in Léon Bonnat's studio. On his return home, he joined the painting school in Skagen, a town on the northern Jutland peninsula, which included the official portrait painter Laurits Tuxen, who specialized in European royalty between 1880 and 1900. Koefoed's style is influenced by the realist style and colors of Frederik Vermehren and Carl Bloch, among others. Koefoed was an all-round artist who excelled in both portraiture and landscape, notably in Bornholm, Lynæs and Nivåegnen. He exhibited at London's Royal Academy of Art in 1879, and his works are now on show in numerous museums, including Copenhagen's Museum of Fine Arts.
