Jean STARCK (b. 1948), Art-Cloche group. Portrait méditatif, - Lot 85
Jean STARCK (b. 1948), Art-Cloche group. Portrait méditatif, 1992. Oil on canvas, both sides, signed. 65 x 50 cm. Art-Cloche, originally Cloche Art, is a Parisian art collective founded in the 1980s. The name Art-Cloche is also used for the squat occupied by the collective from June 15, 1981 to June 1986, located at 6 rue d'Arcueil, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, a stone's throw from the Cité Verte artists' residence. Evicted by the City of Paris, the collective found refuge in a new squat at 4 rue d'Oran, in the 18th arrondissement, until June 27, 1988, the date of the second eviction. Jean Starck, Nicolas Pawlowski, Mériadeg Courtet, Alexandre Sacha Putov, Ody Saban and Henri Schurder were the main movers and shakers. Art Cloche played a major role in the history of Parisian art squats. Once evicted from Art Cloche (rue d'Arcueil), the collective made way for another generation of artists who occupied the premises during 1987, just before the building was demolished. This short period saw a number of street art artists, including Michel Ktu, Psychose (Psy), Zeek and photographer Aalk, reinvest the premises before opening a new location in a former printing works in Arcueil. From there, they moved on and later opened other artistic squats (Ktu) such as La Miroiterie.
