Gabriel MARTIN (1842-1922) Portrait of Mme Gabriel Martin, née Juliette Housset (1850-1931) Unsigned oil on canvas 24 x 16.5 cm Some craquelure Antique wood and gilded stucco frame, some missing parts Expert : Expertises Tellier, Paris / Marc-Henri TELLIER, CEFA member Gabriel Martin was born in Rouen on May 25, 1842. He was a pupil of Gustave Morin at the Rouen School of Fine Arts. A brilliant student, the City of Rouen awarded him a scholarship to perfect his technique, and he joined Alexandre Cabanel's numerous students at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He died in Rouen on January 12, 1922. Provenance: artist's family by descent.
