Jean-François DE BOEVER (1872-1949). The Star. Gouache signe - Lot 205
Jean-François DE BOEVER (1872-1949). The Star. Gouache signed lower right, titled on back. 50 x 34 cm. On the back, old Maunscrit inscription: "The star, like a ravishing flower, rises from the mire, the woman, flower of evil, rises and blooms, and before her, the petrified human beast looks on...". Trained at the Ghent academy, the painter approached woman from every angle; a woman he saw as seductive and provocative, mistress or goddess, sometimes even demon, and where man is always subordinate. Here, in this Astre, we see her grappling with the devil.
