FON, late 19th century, HOUNTONDJI workshop. Recade "asen" in copper alloy composed of a flared conical part and a shaft with a dried fruit. Openwork chameleon-shaped top (symbol of slow ascent), emblem of King AKABA reigning from 1685 to 1708. The cane features pendants and clusters of cowries. Ht: 77 cm. Provenance: General TAVERNA (1854-1945), collected in Dahomey before 1900. Then by descent. Exhibition: Des trésors des rois d'Abomey à l'Afrique d'aujourd'hui, Musée Romain Rolland, Clamecy, 2007.
