YORUBA (Nigeria), late 19th century. Large monoxyle throne with patina of use, seat carefully curved and decorated with incised geometric motifs. Base with five vertical legs, the central round one surrounded by 4 square-section legs adorned on the sides with fretwork, resting on a stepped rectangular base finished with a round doucine plinth. 72 x 59 x 43 cm. Provenance: General TAVERNA (1854-1945), collected in Dahomey before 1900. Then by descent. Exhibition: Des trésors des rois d'Abomey à l'Afrique d'aujourd'hui, Musée Romain Rolland, Clamecy, 2007.
