Bronze seal matrix depicting the winged lion of Saint Mark, inscribed on the rim "SHIPOLIBERA.PROPILIAT.COMITAT.GURII.??", pierced grip ring. Venice, 15th century Diameter: 4.2 cm (wear and oxidation). Two wax impressions made in the 19th century by Gustave Rivet with this seal on Senate paper. Diameter: 4.5 cm. History: This bronze seal of the Republic of Venice was a gift from Giuseppe Garibaldi to Gustave Rivet (1848-1936), politician and member of parliament for Isère. Expert: Laurence FLIGNY
