Guy BRIANCEAU, 20th century French school. Snowy landscape, - Lot 404
Guy BRIANCEAU, 20th century French school. Snowy landscape, 1979. Oil on canvas signed and dated lower right. 81 x 100 cm. Born in Carquefou in 1923 to a railroad worker father, Guy Brianceau followed his father to Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, starting to paint and draw at an early age. By trade, he became a building painting contractor, but continued to paint for pleasure. In particular, he created theater sets and regularly exhibited his work in the Nantes region.
He painted a great deal of the marshes of northwestern Vendée and their bourrines, as well as Nantes and the Brière region, to which he was very attached. A gifted self-taught artist, Guy Brianceau became a drawing teacher in 1956 at the Nantes institutions of Saint-Stanislas and Ozanam. He remained so until his retirement. He continued to exhibit regularly in the Nantes and Vendée regions, as well as in Paris.
It was in 1960 that he earned his "bâton de maréchal", a well-deserved additional recognition. Following a competition, he created the painting offered by the town of Saint-Nazaire to Yvonne de Gaulle, in her capacity as godmother of the liner France.
