Fred MONEY (1882-1956). Park in bloom, circa 1920. Oil on panel signed lower right. 90 x 73 cm. Biography: Fred Money, pseudonym of Raoul Billon, is a French painter, illustrator and poster artist.
Fred Money graduated first from the Bernard Palissy school and studied painting in the studio of the painter Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse. A friend of Auguste Renoir and Pierre Eugène Montézin, his work is in the wake of post-impressionism. He painted genre scenes, portraits, flowers and landscapes. Many of Fred Money's works were acquired by the French government and the city of Paris. His activity is divided between Paris and his house in Crasville-la-Rocquefort near Dieppe where he has his summer studio.
Fred Money earned his living as an illustrator, often under his name "Raoul Billon". He illustrated works by La Fontaine, Alphonse Daudet, Alexandre Dumas, Gustave Flaubert, Pierre Loti, Pierre Louÿs and Jean de La Varende.
He also produced a series of tourist posters for the great beaches of the Atlantic coast, commissioned by the French Railways, the tourist offices and the Universal Exhibition of 1937, as well as postcards illustrating different regions.
