RARE QUILT FROM THE PALAIS BOURBON (PARIS). - Lot 450
RARE QUILT FROM THE PALAIS BOURBON (PARIS).
Regency period (1715-1723).
In a cover for a cross bed, made in a light blue silk damask fabric with a large pointed design of a blooming flower, flowering branches and bunches of fruit. Linen lining with three sepia inventory marks with the letters P. B. (Palais Bourbon) under the crown of Prince of the Blood and two handwritten inventory numbers 8 and 9.
190 x 125 x 75 cm.
Good condition, only the three inventory marks on the lining have left small stains on the right side, which would explain why this quilt has been stored, as it has been used very little.
Provenance
- Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (1673-1743), duchess of Bourbon.
- Then kept in her descendants.
History
This piece was commissioned for the first furnishing of the Bourbon Palace built between 1722 and 1728 by Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (1673-1743), known as Mademoiselle de Nantes, legitimate daughter of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan, Duchess of Bourbon and then Princess of Condé by her marriage to Louis III of Bourbon-Condé. She gave her name to the Bourbon Palace, the current National Assembly in Paris. Expert: Mr. Maxime CHARRON
We thank Mr. G. MABILLE, former General Curator at the Château de Versailles for the confirmation of the origin of the inventory marks.
