[Manuscripts]. MONTHERLANT (Henri de). 5 autograph letters. 1) Letter addressed to a lady. Montherlant thanks his correspondent for her article "... on the old Relève (...) you felt well that it was good not to read Le songe without adding the reading of this first book. You have seen perfectly (...) that there was something very objective in what I say about children. No one has been less "misunderstood", has been less lacking in received tenderness than I was as a child. In the same way, all my animosity against "parents" in general, is the opposite of what there was in my own life...". Finally, he compliments her on her last sentence: "... it is of a beautiful poet. I would like it to be mine, I would be proud of it...". La Relève du matin is an essay, published in 1920, in which Montherlant draws inspiration from his student years, while Songe (Grasset, 1922) is an autobiographical novel drawn from his experience of the 1914-1918 war.
